Glass boughs along the Brim.

The sun shone brightly from transparent blue skies. The air was sharp but refreshing. The snow was like a fine carpet of moss over rolling hills. The tree boughs sparkled brightly like crystal chandeliers as far as the eye could see.

Today was another day in paradise at the Brim.

Not only does an atmosphere like this make for a perfect ski or snowboarding day, it makes for a perfect snow making day. After finally clearing the equipment of ice yesterday the crew fired up the system around 2:30pm and we were back in production.

Crystals on the Brim

Nature is interesting, never boring, often destructive and beautiful. Nature is a roller coaster that takes us on an ever winding ride of ups, downs and loops. Nature is best enjoyed while immersed in it and Brimacombe is a great place to jump in.

This season started strong and has enabled us to produce some of the best early season skiing and riding I can remember in the life time I have spent out here on the slopes. Our base is fantastic on our open terrain and the surface is like fine sugar.

It was disappointing to lose two days this past weekend, but I think most had their own challenges keeping them busy…some are still without power and our thoughts go out to them. It was a weekend to reset our minds to remember the luxuries we have in this day and age and with the Holiday’s upon us maybe it was meant to bring our families and friends closer together in these busy times we live in.

I would like to thank everyone who came out today for their patience and understanding. A crew of us spent a big part of the weekend here chipping, chopping and breaking up the ice on our roads and lifts…twice in fact just to try and keep ahead of the game. At 7pm last night we finally lost power which ended our attempts to clear the lifts, we decided to re-group in the wee hours of this morning to do battle with nature and chip (without much exaggeration) an inch of ice off the chair lift carriers –with over 60 chairs on each lift this took considerable time.

It was a beautiful sight to see the morning rise on the surrounding landscape of crystal crusted evergreens and snow covered rolling hills –you have to look for the positives when faced with negatives.

Though loading passengers on our lifts was delayed this morning, those who parked at the top and took their first runs down raved about the snow conditions…fast and firm, perfect for edging long powerful turns and gliding down the slopes through the crisp morning air.

This is why we do what we do. To see people enjoy the fruits of your labor is very rewarding and we are lucky enough to have opportunities every day to experience this.

The ice storm took no toll from our conditions, some even commented that they were even better today than last week. The ice crust was no match for the powerful tillers on our snow groomers, it was pulverized into sugar and mixed into the subsurface creating “perfect pistes”.

But don’t just take my word for it, join us tomorrow, at the Brim.

EPIC opening!

What an AWESOME opening weekend we had here at the Brim! Saturday was nice but the snow that fell overnight pushed the conditions from stellar…to EPIC! We’d like to thank everyone who joined us, whether to ski, snowboard or even to get some Christmas shopping done in our SLOPESIDE retail store or purchasing gift cards…you made our first weekend of the 2013-2014 season a success!

We will be closed Monday and Tuesday, reopening for Wednesday Day and Night skiing. By then we plan to have more runs and lifts open for your enjoyment thanks to solid snow making temperatures and our dedicated crew! As I write, snow production is underway on Park Ave, Pete’s Elbow, Ladies Downhill, Ben’s Bump, the Bowl, Club House run and the Vault terrain park!

Pictures illustrate our story better than I could ever relay in words. Here is what our weekend looked like if you could not make to out for some down time;
