What a GREAT way to spend the weekend...with FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT THE BRIM.

Today the Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers -Durham Chapter put in a full day of training in anticipation of the start of their 8 week program next Sunday.

Today was Blake and Addison C's BEST DAY EVER! Their FIRST time on skis!

Timid at first, both girls took to our sport like PENGUINS to iceberg's! After a few simple pointers they were off and sliding....making pizza and french fries like no ones business!

Blake's first time ever putting on a ski!

Addison was quick to follow her big sister,

and PROUD mom Melissa was ready to introduce them to a sport she loved as a kid.

Grandma Shelley gets Addison sliding.

Blake is ready to take her FIRST run EVER down a small slope on the Bambi run.

Pizza!

French Fries!

Addison will not be out done!

A proud "LITTLE PENGUIN"!

AWESOME job today ladies!

The ADVENTURES of PACE PENGUIN

Our friend PACE PENGUIN woke up this morning to his first full day at the Brim and was pleased to see 3” – 4” of FRESH new snow!

An ideal day for PACE -and other little penguins- to begin the journey of learning to ski safely. Let’s follow his trail and see what his first experiences were…

First things first, PACE needed a lift ticket….he knows that Brimacombe has a full season of fun ahead so he signed up and became a member! After filling out his membership registration forms and getting his picture taken for his pass, he had Linda S help him affix his pass in a visible location on his upper body.

As he walked around the resort, he noticed lots of informational signage! PACE thought it must be important if Brimacombe had taken the time to post it in so many locations so he thought he should take a few minutes to read it! He had trouble with some of the big words and what they meant so he asked an adult to help him understand it all.

He even found Trail maps in a number of locations….PACE decided to take a minute and get himself oriented with BRIMACOMBE and see what lifts would take him to the easiest terrain to get started on.

On PACE’s way to the rental shop to get some gear, he saw Jesse P Brimacombe’s Snow Host in a bright green Brimacombe jacket. Jesse said hello and asked him if he could help PACE find anything. PACE told him that he was new to the sport and that he was trying to find his way to the rental shop so he could get some gear and hit the slopes! Jesse told him how to get to the rental shop but suggested it might be best if he took a lesson from one of our skilled instructors at the Brimacombe Snow School…this way he would not only learn some technique but also learn more about the important rule’s and responsibilities he read about on some of the signs he saw earlier.

PACE thought Jesse’s advice was good and decided that the Snow School would be his destination after he picked up his gear! Inside the rental shop PACE was fitted with skis, boots and a properly fitted helmet!

All set with properly fit and adjusted ski gear from the Slopeside rental shop PACE was off to the Brimacombe Snow School to inquire about a lesson to get him started!

Shannon V was super helpful and helped him through the process of selecting the right type of lesson for a beginner his age and also helped him fill out his registration forms!

PACE was ready to hit the slopes! Stay tuned to future at the Brim blogs to see more of his experiences here at Brimacombe!

Here are some IMPORTANT questions parents should think about BEFORE hitting the slopes with their young children...

Let’s work together!

We want families to have a fun, safe day on the slopes. That’s why we developed the PACE program. Your child will learn the Alpine Responsibility Code and other skiers/snowboarders will be reminded to give your child space and slow down around them. At participating resorts young children receive a special, bright PACE Bib to wear, so everyone will recognize them as young skiers.
  • DOES YOUR CHILD HAVE A PROPER FITTING SKI HELMET?HINT»
  • HAS YOUR CHILD’S EQUIPMENT BEEN INSPECTED BY A
    TECHNICIAN THIS SEASON?
     HINT»
  • HAS YOUR CHILD REVIEWED THE STAY SAFE WITH
    PACE TIPS?
    HINT»
  • DO YOU AND YOUR CHILD KNOW HOW TO RIDE A SKI
    LIFT SAFELY?
    HINT»
  • ARE THEY DRESSED APPROPRIATELY FOR THE WEATHER?HINT»
  • HAVE YOU EVALUATED THE SNOW/WEATHER CONDITIONS
    WITH YOUR CHILD?
    HINT»
  • HAS YOUR CHILD TAKEN LESSONS RECENTLY?HINT»
  • ARE YOU COMFORTABLE SKIING ALONE WITH YOUR CHILD?HINT»
  • HAVE YOU PLANNED YOUR SKI ROUTE?HINT»
  • ARE THEY HAPPY, FED AND RESTED?HINT»

A day of FIRSTS

What an INCREDIBLE day on the slopes of Brimacombe today. With a much more comfortable air temperature and FRESH snow falling over night you could not ask for a nicer day to ski or snowboard!

Today was a day of FIRSTS.
It was the FIRST day of OPENING Rutherford’s Cut, Challenger, Whistler, Sunny Side, Nice and Easy and Farmer’s Field (I do not recall the last time we had 100% COVERAGE by Jan 4…it has been some time…definitely a FIRST in the last ten years).
It is also the FIRST day that we opened the NEW section of our relocated VAULT terrain park…more construction will be done this coming week but the park looks EPIC already!

My favorite FIRST, is the “FIRST TIME ON SKIS”, and today my little buddy Logan had his! Sitting in the chalet the other day at lunch Logan -not even two years old- pointed wide eyed out to the slopes and said “SKI!” a great sign that a new love was about to be realized. This afternoon, accompanied by his Mom Teresa (our faithful Marketing and Promotions Manager), his Dad Mike and his Grandpa Don and Grandma Lindsey, Logan took to the slopes for the FIRST time.

Logan LOVED his FIRST today, this was proven by his smiles and shouts of “FASTER”
Welcome to our sport buddy!

I spoke to a number of others who were experiencing their FIRST time as well today, the smiles make our job REWARDING!

The view is STUNNING from the top of Challenger.

Phase II of the VAULT terrain park opened this afternoon!

Come check out the new location and hit some pristine features with BUTTERY FLOW. Our Terrain park staff -headed up by Stephan H- have OUT DONE THEMSELVES once again…a competition quality park for everyday use!

Even more features will be added to the mix this week, stay tuned to our Facebook page for pictures and updates!

Cathelene S had a SUCCESSFUL day of snow boarding today! She's a trooper!

The SUN has set on an AWESOME day….and an awesome NIGHT of skiing is underway.

Pace Penguin showed up in my office today (Thanks CSP Patrol leader Bob T) , he tells me he plans to spend the winter touring around and experiencing all there is to do and see here at the Brim!

Stay tuned for pictures of the fun he has on the slopes!

Fulfilling, not full.

As you peel the plastic off a new calendar and prepare to write the birthdays of those important to you, special events you plan to attend, and appointments you can't miss, schedule some "down time" with us here at the Brim. These days we lead hectic lives and we often forget to schedule time to relax and enjoy ourselves...life should be fulfilling...not just full.

Brimacombe is surrounded by rolling hills, miles of view, and forests of cedar, pine, and fir...the ideal place to unwind and take in deep breaths of fresh air while leaving the hustle, bustle, sights and sounds of the city behind.

I am pleased to announce that we will be
OPENING EVEN MORE TERRAIN TOMORROW
and again if all goes well for Saturday!

The FLYER and
and the lower half of TOWER RUN (making it 100% open)
will be OPEN for THURSDAY JANUARY 2, 2014!

We are aiming to have the entire Vault terrain park open at some point on Saturday January 4, 2014.

Don't forget, you must have a valid 2013/2014 Brimacombe Park Pass or a Park Pass from one of the following participating resorts to access the Vault Terrain Park.

Alpine Ski Club
Beaver Valley Ski Club
Caledon Ski Club
Chicopee Ski & Summer Resort
Craigleith Ski Club
Devil's Glen Country Club
Georgian Peaks Club
Laurentian Ski Hill
Mansfield Ski Club
Osler Bluff Ski Club

It is understood that reciprocating clubs will share an individual's personal information when required.
