No longer counting in days...we are down to hours!

Hi everyone....I am finally forcing myself to write this at the Brim blog post...it's been too long, but we've been in high gear preparing for this season from almost the day we closed last season!

Things are looking GREAT out here at the Brim. The terrain that we will have open for the weekend is solid….no scraping or stretching just to make it "skiable". Staying closed this week enabled us to “do it right” and build a good base which will allow us to move on without worry of losing what’s open if we hit a warm spell. It also means that we will not be struggling to come back on these runs between operational hours to build on the base. We will be back, but not before pushing on to more run openings!

Snow making production has been the best I have seen in many years thanks to good temperatures and we are very close to adding to the list of open runs. We currently are stating Standard, Bambi, Snow Bowl, and the Piggy Bank (full beginner park with 11 features!) but hope to be adding to that list very soon!

For a complete list of operational hours for December, please visit, http://brimacombe.ca/hours_directions/hours

The Vault terrain park is really looking good as well.  It still needs a bit more time, but the relocation project is already proving itself with regards to speed of snow making. Snow making equipment has also been running on Pete's Elbow and the lower half of Ladies' Downhill through to the Bowl Chair load area and we are working aggressively towards having that terrain and the Bowl Chair open very soon. From here we will move to Ben's Bump, Bowl and onto the western runs!

I like pictures and I know you do too. If you have not been following us along on Facebook you may not have seen these yet....if you have there are also a few new ones thrown into the mix!

Fired up.

Fan gun fun.

Snow making is an art and a science, as simple as compressed air and water may seem our snow makers have to learn to read nature and tweak our equipment to maximize output while maintaining quality...not an easy task most days!

Here (above and below) we see a MyNeige brand Rubis EVO marginal temperature snow producer. These are considered "ultra low energy" snow guns meaning they use minimal compressed air to assist converting water to snow. These particular guns are "nozzled" for "marginal" temperatures...meaning they are designed to produce better quality snow at warmer temperatures and can be started up sooner (-3 degrees Celsius).

As many of you know, we completed a MAJOR expansion of our snow making pond this summer, we increased it's size by approximately 2.7 times!

Tim Z. provided us with the aerial photo below, the smaller square section at the bottom was the pond area we had previous to the project start...everything above that area in the picture is all new over the past two summers! A big project but it is proving its importance, our pond now holds approximately 80% of the water we will convert to snow all winter.

The pond has a surface area of approximately 6 acres and varies from 14 to 21 feet deep in all virgin clay. I have been told it is one of the biggest man made snow making ponds in North America (though I have nothing to back that up).

The photo above shows our current pond level (earlier this week)...barely a dent where as in past years we would be approaching the point where we would have to shut down our snow making system and recharge the pond before we could continue to make snow and open runs.

This is the view of the pond that most will see...beautiful shot but does not capture the true size of "Brimacombe Lake".

I always end my Blog posts with another day in Paradisemaybe these next few pictures will show you why I say that.

and finally, the view from my office window this morning...

There may not be loads of NATURAL snow...but don't worry, we...

A new season awaits and all of us here at the Brim are stoked! We can't wait to welcome you all back to the slopes, the vibe out here is electric!

It was another day in paradise...join me in one more sleep!

Cheers,

Mark

Around the BRIM this weekend.

If you were stuck in the city all weekend you missed a great time on the slopes of Brimacombe. With barely a flake of snow visible on your lawn and street you may wonder where all the cars are heading with skis and snowboards strapped to their roof racks...I've got the answer, and it's here at the Brim! The ski and snowboarding conditions are great here at Brimacombe...so I thought I'd share some pics of just a handful of the people who are enjoying winter to the maximum by taking the opportunity to get some "down time".

Blue sky and white snow....a great combination!

Joan P. out for a day with her kids and grand kids,

Jody A. and Gabby spend some mother daughter time together,

Shawna C. and Samantha A. happy to be together on the slopes,

3 1/2 month old Elliot R. enjoying some time people watching in the chalet,

Tim S. takes a breather between parent and tot sessions....twins keep him busy,
Kayla D. finds a mud slide in February!

A great weekend to learn the sport,

It's also been a great weekend for lunch on the deck...Landon and Reagan poised ready to serve,

Paul B and Ava take a few last runs before heading home after a fun day on the slopes,

Contrary to the predictions of the Groundhog...winter IS NOT over, there is still tons of skiing and snowboarding time left in this season, with a number of great events on the schedule! Check out our homepage for more information http://www.brimacombe.ca/ .

There appears to be a little more snowmaking weather coming this week...we are standing by ready to spring into action. We will be continuing to build up the base depth on our already open terrain and work towards opening Rutherford's Cut.....with hopes of building the mogul field as soon as possible -or Ed W will never leave me alone! ;)

It's another day in paradise!

Cheers,

Mark

Stage a "Winter-vention" this weekend at Brimacombe

Do you have a friend that is sitting around the house either "waiting for winter to start" or counting down the days until it's over? This weekend is the perfect time to stage an intervention!

We live in Canada, for goodness sakes, and it's time to roll with the punches Mother Nature dishes out. Who wants to spend 3-4 months of the year hibernating!?!

STEP ONE: This Saturday night at Brimacombe we're hosting our first Apres Ski Party of the season from 3:30-9:30 p.m!

Grab your family and friends and cozy up in the warmth of the East Chalet while listening to live music and enjoying dinner and munchie specials on sale in the cafeteria and, of course, a cash bar.

Remember: All Apres Ski Parties are now on Saturday nights. No tickets are required and no admission will be charged! Just show up & bring your family and friends.

STEP TWO: If you've successfully managed to drag that hibernating friend, or family member, off the coach, you can also take it one step further and actually get them out onto the slopes, by taking advantage of the 2-for-1 Discover Packages being offer this Saturday night only!

On the evening of January 14, 2012, Brimacombe's already low-priced Discover Packages are buy one, get one FREE*!

Please plan to arrive at least 30-40 minutes before your lesson to allow time for purchase and equipment fitting.

On a stroll through the park...

The Terrain Park at the Brim was full of action today, if you've followed my blogs in the past you'll know, pictures tell a better story than I ever could...

Here's what I saw...

Another fun place to play at the Brim is our mogul field...

Chris D finds his line,

After his wife Sue shows him how it is done!

We have received a lot of snow since we first planted the "mogul seeds" and they sure have grown!

A view from afar of the top of our Whistler run,

Mike sets up a set of demo skis at the Brimacombe On-Hill Demo tent. Try every ski on our shops wall....right outside our shops door.

Today was race day for the Nancy Greene league on the slopes of Brimacombe.

It was another day in Paradise,
Cheers,
Mark
