MARCH...in like a LION!

It has been a year of many challenges and this past weekend was no exception. Though high winds were forecast we could not have foreseen the magnitude of which occurred. The gusting wind was so strong that we were forced to close all but the Magic Carpet conveyor lift on our Bambi run. We were lucky that no damage occurred to the property other then large portions of our temporary fencing blown down. In conditions like this we must consider all risks and make decisions based on public safety. With the wind warning continuing into the evening the decision was made to close completely for the day and night. Brimacombe was not alone in this as many resorts across Ontario were forced to close either partially or fully depending on their location. When the sun rose on Sunday, the scene was very different. The cold front had moved in and the temperatures were considerably cooler. The ski conditions were fantastic by all accounts with a few icy areas as a result of the late night rain on Friday.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have been understanding of the challenges Mother Nature has created for us this season. On behalf of the management and staff at Brimacombe we truly appreciate the kind words and encouragement we have received this season.

It’s an exciting time here at Brimacombe!
Not only are we celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the Oshawa Ski Club, but the financial success of the past couple seasons has also allowed your Management Team and Board of Directors to move ahead with growth plans for your Club’s future success.
As a first step in this long-term plan, we have committed to the purchase and installation of a new fourth chairlift to be installed in the Standard run area. Our goal is to install the new chair as soon as this coming Summer 2012, but we need your help to ensure we meet this goal. The approximate cost of a new quad chair is $1.6 million. We have already saved about $1 million towards this project, and only need to earn the additional $600,000 this winter to make a new chair a reality this coming summer. We can do this with your support!

You’ve probably heard us say it before, but in case you haven’t I’ll say it again, “Every dollar spent here, stays here!” As a not-for-profit ski and snowboard area, every dollar you spend on-site at Brimacombe is invested back into the facility, contributing to projects such as our new chairlift. It makes supporting your facility easy, and in fact most of you have been doing it already!
Let’s work together to raise the remaining funds and secure a new chairlift by Summer 2012.

Here are four easy ways you can help:

1. Bring someone new to BrimacombeDo you know someone who would love skiing or snowboarding at Brimacombe? Take the initiative and invite them to try our slopes. Not only could you gain a new ski buddy, but every rental, lift ticket and membership sold also contributes to the purchase of our new chairlift.
2. Shop at Brimacombe’s Slopeside Retail StoreThe next time you’re shopping for equipment, apparel and accessories, visit Brimacombe’s Slopeside Retail Store with one location only, conveniently located at the base of Brimacombe. Not only will you discover excellent selection and competitive pricing, but every hard-earned dollar you spend will also support the installation of our new chairlift. No other shop can do that, because Brimacombe does not operate a store in the hamlet of Kirby, Oshawa or any other town!
3. Book a lessonIs there someone you know who wants to learn to ski or snowboard, or could you yourself use a refresher? Not only will a lesson increase the likelihood that a new skier or snowboarder will stick with the sport, but every lesson booked at Brimacombe’s award winning Snow School will also contribute dollars towards our new chairlift!
4. Treat yourself to lunchTake advantage of Brimacombe’s on-site food services at the East and West Chalets, as well as the Snack Hut at the top of Standard. Every food and beverage purchase helps raise funds for our new chairlift and meet our goal to have it installed by Summer 2012.

The enthusiasm and support of our members is what has made the Oshawa Ski Club, now Brimacombe, so amazing these past 75 years. On behalf of your Board of Directors and Management Team, thank you so much for your continued support this season as we continue to grow and work together to raise funds to meet our goal of installing a new chairlift by the coming Summer 2012.

Not only will a lesson increase the likelihood that a new skier or snowboarder will stick with the sport, but every lesson booked at Brimacombe’s award winning Snow School will also contribute dollars towards our new chairlift!

4. Treat yourself to lunch
Take advantage of Brimacombe’s on-site food services at the East and West Chalets, as well as the Snack Hut at the top of Standard.

1. Bring someone new to Brimacombe

Do you know someone who would love skiing or snowboarding at Brimacombe? Take the initiative and invite them to try our slopes. Not only could you gain a new ski buddy, but every rental, lift ticket and membership sold also contributes to the purchase of our new chairlift.

2. Shop at Brimacombe’s Slopeside Retail Store

The next time you’re shopping for equipment, apparel and accessories, visit Brimacombe’s Slopeside Retail Store with one location only, conveniently located at the base of Brimacombe. Not only will you discover excellent selection and competitive pricing, but every hard-earned dollar you spend will also support the installation of our new chairlift. No other shop can do that, because Brimacombe does not operate a store in the hamlet of Kirby, Oshawa or any other town!

3. Book a lesson

Is there someone you know who wants to learn to ski or snowboard, or could you yourself use a refresher? Not only will a lesson increase the likelihood that a new skier or snowboarder will stick with the sport, but every lesson booked at Brimacombe’s award winning Snow School will also contribute dollars towards our new chairlift!

MORE TERRAIN COMING SOON!

With winter finally starting to rev up (slowly) we are pushing steadily ahead with our snowmaking operations to get more available terrain open for you to enjoy.

On Friday January 20, 2012 the Clubhouse Run and Promenade will OPEN serviced by the West Chair and West Chalet. Access from the east will be across the top or through the top Flyer/Promenade chute.

At 4:30pm on January 20, 2012 the MAIN TERRAIN PARK will OPEN! Don't forget all users of the Main Terrain Park require a Park Pass. Complete the Brimacombe Park Pass program online at http://www.brimacombe.ca/parkpass or visit the Administration Office inside the East Chalet. Brimacombe Park Passes are just $10 plus tax and you must be 8 years of age or older. All those under the age of 18 must have their waivers signed by a parent or legal guardian. Please read all information carefully, if you are unsure of any requirements please call our main office at (905)983-5983

On Saturday January 21, 2012 the PEE WEE SKI CAMP will begin (enter via Gate 1), and Kids Stuff and CowPath will OPEN serviced by T-bar #5!

From here will we be moving snowmaking equipment onto the Flyer, upper portion of Tower and a few other locations with the goal of stretching further west in the near future. Stay tuned for more updates.

Yes....it IS cold enough for me....

What a change a week can make, today’s -15*c is a stark contrast to last Saturday’s +7*c temperature….what a perfect January day!
We fired up the snowmaking system late yesterday afternoon in the Main Terrain Park, Bunny Blvd., the Bowl, Kids Stuff, the very top of the Flyer and lower sections of Promenade (to begin building the link to the west terrain) and by mid day today we were shifting equipment from Bunny Blvd. to Clubhouse Run, a little more in the Main Terrain Park and one gun to the top of Park Avenue. We are pleased to announce that we will be opening Bunny Blvd. and Park Avenue tomorrow (Park Ave. on primarily natural snow with limited base) with plans to have the Bowl open on Tuesday morning.
We are setting our sights on opening Clubhouse Run, the lower half of Promenade, and Kid’s Stuff serviced by the West Chair, and T-bar#5 for next weekend….the West Chalet will also open when this terrain becomes available. Our goal is to also have our Main Terrain Park open by next weekend, cold weather permitting.

If you feared the cold and stayed inside today....here are some shots to show you what you missed!

Beautiful snow....love it!

Our own storm system.

It WAS another day in Paradise....see you tomorrow,

Cheers,

Mark

Stage a "Winter-vention" this weekend at Brimacombe

Do you have a friend that is sitting around the house either "waiting for winter to start" or counting down the days until it's over? This weekend is the perfect time to stage an intervention!

We live in Canada, for goodness sakes, and it's time to roll with the punches Mother Nature dishes out. Who wants to spend 3-4 months of the year hibernating!?!

STEP ONE: This Saturday night at Brimacombe we're hosting our first Apres Ski Party of the season from 3:30-9:30 p.m!

Grab your family and friends and cozy up in the warmth of the East Chalet while listening to live music and enjoying dinner and munchie specials on sale in the cafeteria and, of course, a cash bar.

Remember: All Apres Ski Parties are now on Saturday nights. No tickets are required and no admission will be charged! Just show up & bring your family and friends.

STEP TWO: If you've successfully managed to drag that hibernating friend, or family member, off the coach, you can also take it one step further and actually get them out onto the slopes, by taking advantage of the 2-for-1 Discover Packages being offer this Saturday night only!

On the evening of January 14, 2012, Brimacombe's already low-priced Discover Packages are buy one, get one FREE*!

For only $48, two people can learn to ski or snowboard with a Beginner Discover Package that includes a four-hour equipment rental and beginner lift ticket, plus a one-hour beginner lesson – everything they need to get started on the slopes!

Not a beginner? Experienced Discover Packages are only $75 and are perfect for the lapsed rider in need of a refresher.

Please plan to arrive at least 30-40 minutes before your lesson to allow time for purchase and equipment fitting.

*PLEASE NOTE: This 2-for-1 Discover Package offer is valid on the evening of January 14, 2012 only. Lift ticket and equipment rental runs 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Group lesson is at 5:30 p.m. Offer is not valid in conjunction with any other coupon or promotional offer. Discount applies to Discover Package of equal or lesser value. Both Packages must be purchased in the same transaction. ** Lift ticket included in the Discover Package #1 for Beginners is valid on Brimacombe's Magic Carpet only. The Lift Ticket included with the Discover Package #2 for the Slightly More Experienced allows unlimited access to all open trails.
