A Season in Pictures

We fought the good fight with Mother Nature this season and despite her best efforts, we didn’t let anything dampen our spirit! With a total of 11 skiable weeks, we refuse to believe that the 2015/16 season was anything less than great. We’re privileged to have been apart of all the memories that were made on the slopes among family and friends.

That being said, here are some pictures that captured our favourite memories this season:

Opening Week

Our snowmaking machines worked overtime in preparation of Opening Day (Jan. 5). They continued to work hard throughout the season to ensure that the slopes were always looking their best.

Day and Night

Of course, when our machines teamed up with Mother Nature, we always welcomed the outcomes. No matter what time of day, we always made the most of it.

New Additions

We welcomed Timberline to the Brimacombe slope family this season and it made a great first impression.

Old Favourites

Our Vault Terrain Park looked particularly good this season thanks to Bosse Snow Parks.

Fun for Everyone

The Canadian Association for Disabled Skiers (CADS) began an eight-week program that provided opportunities for people, with a wide variety of disabilities, to experience the joys of adaptive skiing in a supportive, fun and safe environment.

Family Day Fun

We just loved Family Day and apparently, so did everyone else! We had a great turnout this season.

Brimfest 2016

We celebrated Brimfest 2016 with our fellow skiers and boarders. We had a great turnout for the weekend-long event, which was filled with friends, family and fun.

Last but not Least

We want to recognize our amazing staff and say thank-you for all the work that they do in order to keep everything in tip-top shape.

So, there you have it – the memories we’ll have to cherish until next season!

Until next time,

What's Happening this Weekend at Brimacombe?

If you've had a look at our webcams this weekend (Jan. 2 & 3, 2016), you may be wondering why you see skiers and a few snowboarders on the slopes before our official opening day on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.

While it may appear that we opened early, don't worry! You haven't missed out, Brimacombe is not open to the public.

In an effort to get our programs on track for next week we have prepared the west half of the Standard run to create some limited terrain in order to run our scheduled CASI Snowboard instructors course and have also permitted the Brimacombe Ski Racing club access to enable them to get their program started to help to ensure a smooth launch into our operational season.

Only those in the instructor course, and race club members with their coaches are permitted on the terrain. We are also using this as a training opportunity for our operations staff.

While we understand that some may be disappointed that we did not open to the public, this decision was made in the best interest of Brimacombe's abilities to be fully open and prepared for all programs to begin next week.

We thank you for your understanding and can't wait to see you on slopes on Tuesday!
Cheers,
The Brimacombe Team

Opening Day is Tuesday, January 5, 2016!

Are you ready to ski or snowboard? We sure are, we just need Mother Nature to wake up and get back to her day job!

While Mother has been difficult to work with this December, this past week has been quite positive for us in the snowmaking department. With some snowmaking temperatures, we’ve been able to blast out some white gold in addition to receiving our first decent natural snowfall on Monday night.

That being said, it’s not always easy to predict Orono’s temperatures. Just like any other area controlled by lake-effect (or any location on planet Earth, for that matter) we’re subject to ups and downs in temperature and weather patterns. To our benefit, often when it’s raining in Oshawa, it’s snowing here in Orono. And moving northward the temperature often continues to drop. Unfortunately that means that while we might have cool temperatures here, putting us on the verge of making snow, other areas are a degree or two colder and into more solid snowmaking temperatures.

While the cold weather was off to a rocky start in December, we have full confidence that January will bring about excellent ski/snowboard-worthy conditions.

With Mother Nature’s recent whims, we want to ensure we give the public a great experience on opening day. This is why we’re officially announcing Tuesday, January 5, as our first day of skiing and snowboarding for the public with full regular season operational hours! We have great snowmaking weather coming up this weekend, which will set us up for an opening day on Tuesday. As we write this, Sunday is forecasted to bring temperatures of -3°(with a low of -14°) and Monday -9° (with a low of -15).

While we’re able to blow snow at -3°, the amount and quality produced at this temperature is much poorer than that of -9°(with the same amount of water). Simply said, colder temperatures on Sunday will make for a much better opening day on Tuesday. PLUS it’s supposed to be sunny and only -4°!
