The SUN is a little warmer

It's about providing the opportunity, not taking the opportunity,
It's about the response we get when we ask someone how their day has been,
It's about the sounds of laughter and animated conversation filling the chalet over lunch,
It's about the look on a child's face when they take their first run, or first ride up a chairlift,
It's about the names and faces we collect in our memories each year,
It's about the people.

We have truly been blessed this season -ample snow, higher than average days of clear blue sky, perfect snow conditions in spite of some less than perfect weather events and a fantastic number of visitors to our slopes. March break this year resembled the march breaks of 20 years ago and included a healthy percentage of brand new skiers and snowboarders. I took some time the other day and stood at the bottom of the Main Street chair talking to people. If there is any single reward to our work out here it is the reward of hearing people rave about their day with us. To hear people who have never skied or snowboarded...or have not done it in decades say "We WILL be back" shows us that we have done our job.

If you weren't at Brimacombe this March Break, here's a look at what you missed.

It's March Break!

March break is upon us and there is a hint of spring in the air. The temperature rose above zero today and I caught a hint of "that smell" in the air. It's a rich earth smell, like the trees have exhaled.

Join us all week and take advantage of our stellar conditions, we are open everyday with Monday to Friday day time (9am to 4:30pm) lift tickets remaining at our unbeatable price of just $22 plus hst. We will be open this week for night skiing on Wednesday March 12th and Saturday March 15th. As our operational hours have now changed for the season be sure to visit our website www.brimacombe.ca, like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter to keep in the loop...we are aiming to remain open until the end of March.

The Brimacombe Ski Racing Club is running their annual Intro to Ski Racing program over the next couple of days. This is the biggest group of participants yet and they all had a blast today.

Everything in the Slopeside Skis and Boards retail store is on Final Sale...there is no better time to find great deals on great equipment. Don't forget, every dollar spent here stays here and helps support our Not-For-Profit business.

Check out our Skilogik line...beautifully crafted wood skis that are pure ART...and they perform as good as they look!

The Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers -Durham Chapter runs a successful 8 week program here at Brimacombe each winter. It's great to see that everyone can enjoy our sport. This weekend a group of fine folks are working hard to get certified as CADS instructors.

It's been another day in Paradise,

Cheers,

It's all about FUN

It was a FUN day on the slopes of Brimacombe today. From the Match and Win and Family races to a meet and greet with Matt Morison, we welcomed March with another fantastic day on the slopes.

The Toronto Ski Hawks joined us today for their annual visit and as is tradition the Bowmanville Lions Club hosted a BBQ Lunch! Federal MP Erin O'Toole was on hand as well. Welcome to all, we hope you enjoyed your day with us!

Matt Morison was at Brimacombe today to say hello and present a cheque to Leah Sanders of the Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers - Durham Chapter. Brimacombe raised $1949 in honour of Matt on his Olympic race days -Feb 19 and 22, 2014 to support future winter athletes. The total raised was split between CADS-Durham and Making Winter Winners
.

The Hodges Family take part in today's Family Fun Race.

PACE PENGUIN was touring the slopes today, he just wrapped up his 8 week lesson program and learned a TON of stuff. It was not long ago that he put on skis for the first time and now he is comfortably skiing the Blue runs! He knows that even though he has built up a lot of confidence in his abilities over the season, he still has to work on his control so he has decided to stick with the trails he is comfortable with instead of charging right onto the Black Diamonds! PACE has heard that sometimes little penguins (and even their parents) get a little too confident at this point in the season and go places that they may not be ready for. Skiing or snowboarding within your abilities is very important not only for little penguins but also for others that may be faster or not expecting to see less skilled sliders on advanced runs.

PACE loved little penguin Owen's hat!

Pace gives little penguin Conrad a big hug for doing so well on his skis today!

SunRype juice was at the Brim today...PACE thought it was pretty good stuff (they will be here tomorrow, Sunday March 2 as well)

PACE also welcomed a bunch of new members who joined up today on the first day of our March Membership Promotion.

It's not often I get blown away by graphics on a ski, but Skilogik has done just that with their "Grateful Dead" commemorative ski. It may be the Deadhead in me but these skis are beautiful. Skilogik's line is all wood with wood inlay graphics...and they are NOT just good looking, they ski amazingly well too! We carry Skilogik at Slopeside Skis and Boards here at Brimacombe...you can even demo a few pairs before you buy them! (The Grateful Dead ski is available but not in stock as they are a limited edition ski)

Stop by Slopeside Skis and Boards, ONE location only, at the BASE of Brimacombe (access via gate 4) where every dollar spent here stays here at our Not-For-Profit business.

We still have lot's of "season" left, so come on out and leave your winter blues on the couch.

It's been another day in paradise,

Cheers,

Mark
