I've never met a rodent I would trust.

It's groundhog day, the day when a forecast for the remainder of the season is made by a rodent.

There are a number of so called winter predicting Groundhogs across the land sleeping in burrows and there are crowds of folks who eagerly gather around these burrows each February 2nd waiting for these animals to wake up, go outside to stretch, and either stare dumbfounded into the bright lights of the television cameras and crowds of people....or panic and scurry back into their holes, supposedly alarmed by the sight of their own shadow.

...and collectively, we seem to place trust in what this animal has "told" us with it's actions.

The actions and therefore "prediction" of these ground hogs often varies from location to location....but if I were forced to take the "word" of one of these rodents, I'm going to go with Punxsutawney Phil this year.

The weather guessers are telling us to prepare for colder temperatures tonight. If they are correct we will be firing up the snowmaking system to continue to build up our base depth, touch up some terrain and work towards opening more runs.

It's hard to believe that it's February...we have battled late March temperatures to date but make no mistake, the slopes of Brimacombe have ample snow coverage for your enjoyment. Winter is short enough as it is, don't waste another day...join us for some "down time" at the Brim.

Cheers,

Mark

Brimacombe productions presents SNOW.

At 3am this fine December morning (17,2011) when the temperature finally dropped low enough our overnight crew hit the go button on our snowmaking system....after a week of downtime and rain we were back in the snowmaking "business".

I'll let my photos tell my story today,
Brimacombe Snow School Manager Jayne standing beside a pile of man made snow this morning.

Low Temperature + Compressed Air + Water = SNOW

or in this case...Low Temperature + Water + BIG FAN = SNOW!

There is nothing FAKE about it...we just make it ourselves.

A silent storm under clear blue skies. Give us cold weather, we'll give you snow.

We are testing some new pieces of snowmaking equipment this season, this particular machine is a Techno Alpin T40 fan gun. Future investments into Brimacombe will include improvements to our snowmaking system, pre-testing equipment helps us understand what equipment works best for our resort.

A view from the top.....we are currently making snow on the STANDARD, BAMBI, and BUNNY BLVD. runs and the MAIN and BEGINNER TERRAIN PARKS.

With little to no help from Mother Nature so far this season, we are taking charge and

Don't forget, the SLOPESIDE RETAIL STORE at the Base of Brimacombe is open 7 days a week. We have something for everyone and Christmas is just a few short days away. Buying at Brimacombe's SLOPESIDE RETAIL store is investing in YOUR club, all dollars spent here, stay here!

For the most up to date information please refer to our website http://www.brimacombe.ca/ . We are setting our sights on Wednesday December 21st 2011 as a possible opening day, this is a very tentative date and heavily relies on the weather and our abilities to make snow between now and then. If we meet our snow needs we will be open for day skiing from 9am to 4:30pm and for night skiing from 4:30pm to 10pm.

Hang in there, WINTER is coming!

Cheers,

Mark

There is a lot going on at the Brim today, the Brimacombe Snow Racing Club Christmas camp got under way today. Practice and time trials will be going on all week in preparation for the start of the 2011 race schedule. We wish the club luck and look forward to cheering our athletes on!
The Brimacombe Snow School instructors took part in a skills training session today. Our programs start soon, limited spaces remain so if you have not yet registered don't delay!

More terrain opened up today as well. We added the Bowl, Clubhouse run and the top sections of both Tower run and Promenade (Promenade is natural snow only). Our West quad chair lift and West Chalet are also open.

The week ahead looks good, come on out and spend some time on the slopes, winter doesn't last forever MAKE THE BEST OF IT!!
