A SNOWY Valentines Day!

It's SNOWING at the Brim! Winter arrived and hasn't left, everyone is raving about the on-hill conditions so pull yourself from behind your computer screen and join us for some "downtime"!

We are expecting up to 4 cm of good ol' natural snow over night which will only boost our already fantastic conditions. Our snow making season for all intents and purposes has ended, we pumped 30% more water through our snow making system this year over last and have built ample reserve on our open terrain to take us through to the end of the season. I am regularly asked if we will be opening any terrain west of the West Chair, we had hoped to have Rutherford's Cut, Challenger and Whistler open this past weekend after the huge dumping from the skies however after packing it as best as possible the wind crept up over night and blew enough snow off the steeps to leave us without adequate depth. That being said it stills looks positive -should we get more natural snow- as what remains will help provide the much needed base we will need to open on 100% natural snow.

I think I may have touched on this in another at the Brim blog but it's an important fact that our decision to expand our snow making pond this past summer played a major role in our abilities to recover terrain after the two "January thaws" we experienced this season. We had continual uninterrupted access to more water than we have EVER pumped to the hill to be converted to SNOW...we never ran out once even after increasing our "gallons per minute"...we made more snow faster! With the project planned for completion this summer we timed the wrap up of snow making carefully with the shut down of our recharge system to leave the pond as low as possible so that we would not have to pump out and waste valuable water and energy. A portion of our snow making pond can be seen from the top of our mid western runs...here are a few shots of the construction this past summer;

The "original" pond (Half dug in the mid 90's half in the early 2000's).

 This summers expansion during construction. The equipment in the background of this photo is parked in a similar location as the white truck in the first picture...it was a BIG DIG!

Projects like these that improve our abilities to provide you with the best possible experience regardless of the challenges Mother Nature throws at us are only possible with your support. The Board of Directors, Management and Staff wish to thank you for helping your club remain sustainable and viable by supporting us through your Membership purchases, food purchases, lessons, rentals, supporting Slopeside Skis and Boards -our VERY OWN high quality retail store and referring us to your friends and family. Every dollar spent here stays here!

Thank-you for your continued support in these trying times, in 76 years we have seen many highs, lows, dips and curves and we have found our way through them all. Brimacombe remains one of Ontario's most popular ski and snowboarding facilities and we will continue to strive to maintain that brand.

As I wrap up this post it is STILL SNOWING at Brimacombe!

It was another day in Paradise,
Cheers,

Mark
