Next Saturday, February 6, 2010, the fine folks from SKI TELEMARK will be on site offering Telemark ski rentals and lessons! Looking for something to put the challenge back into your favourite winter activity? Telemark skiing is for you!
Last year I gave it a shot, my instructor Holly did a great job at teaching this old dog some new tricks and it definitely made each run a new experience here at the Brim!

Keith W. cuts a sweet line through the Bowl today on his telemark skis.

Ben's Bump was full of action today as the Brimacombe Racing club hosted a fast paced race.

Our "snow monster" seems to be retreating back into nature...

Brimacombe Snow School instructors riding the Standard chair for some early morning "sessioning"

A peak at our East Chalet from above...

Each time I travel through the Main terrain Park I am amazed by the talent of our skiers and riders.

Copper D. and Andrew V. getting some air in the Main Park.

Outside my window the snow making crew is preparing to fire up the system on the Standard, and Bowl runs. Mother Nature is kicking in a bit from above as well hopefully you're getting some snow on your lawn too!

Make plans to join us for FAMILY DAY, we will be OPEN Monday February 15, 2010!

Take care, see you on the slopes!

Cheers,
Mark

The RETURN of winter

What a difference a few days make! We seem to be back into the swing of winter out here at the Brim, snow making kicked back into gear last night and continues as I write and natural snow fell in squalls for most of the day today. The effect Monday's rain had seems to be reversed now that the groomers have taken a few passes over our refrozen surface...game on.

On more than a few occasions today snow squalls filled the air...
(this was snow...not fog)

By mid afternoon the sun had cut through the overcast skies...and blue began to spread across the horizon

What did the rain do to Brimacombe?

The Big question...What did the rain do to the slopes of Brimacombe?

Our snow fared well considering it rained hard throughout the night Sunday and for most of the day Monday. You might think that we have little but mud and grass left, but this simply is not the case...our front lawn is WHITE AND SNOWY!

Here's the proof, these photos were taken late this afternoon (Jan 26, 2010)

Now, that's not to say we didn't have some negative effects. We are experiencing some wet spots across our terrain, these will dry up as the water drains away and the temperatures drop. A few areas are getting thin, but we hope to resolve this over the next couple of days when the temperatures drop and snow making can begin again. All in all, the hill still looks good and we have not lost any of our open terrain. Those that were out today commented that the conditions were good ("better than they thought").

It's been lightly snowing on and off here all day, and another grooming will improve the conditions that much more...don't let your front lawn fool you, come see for yourself!

Cheers,
Mark

The "R" word

As I travelled around Brimacombe yesterday people kept asking...."Is it going to rain tomorrow?". I promised I'd let them know tonight...Yup, it rained. ;) HOWEVER, it was a fabulous day for skiing, the rain did not start falling until around 3pm, and wasn't heavy until we were shutting down for the night. If the forecast deterred you from coming out you missed a great day at the Brim!

I watch the weather forecasts -I like a good suspense story like anyone else- but I'm noticing a trend that has been growing over the last several years and maybe you have too. The media seems to want to keep us inside.

"It's going to be a cold one out there...better stay inside!"
"A storm front is moving in...expect a DUMP of 5cm...if you don't have to go anywhere.....better stay inside" (BTW...5cm is not a "storm")
"It's going to be cloudy, with sunny periods. Expect some rain changing to snow with a high of 5* and a low of -15*, just to be safe...better stay inside" Ok, I completely made that one up....but sometimes I think the weather guessers throw a bit of everything into their forecasts when they're just not sure about whats going to happen.

When did winter become such a gloomy story in the media? When did cold weather become a reason to hide inside our homes....and snow meant the sky was falling? We as avid skiers and snowboarders know that the above examples scream SNOW SPORTS but for those not "in the know", those with dusty skis and green lawns in January, those leery to make plans when there may be a "chance" of something other than sunny skies...they need our encouragement to take winter by the horns and get outside!

Oliver O did just that today. With the rain gently falling from the sky, Oliver took his first ever runs on skis

This rain will have little to no effect on our conditions, the skiing is still great, fantastic in fact. We hope to fire the snow making system back up this week to build up the base depth so please expect some temporary run closures.

We had a fun weekend here at the Brim, with many more to come! Join us for some "down" time.

Cheers,
Mark

That was a MONSTER of a day!

If fun was controlled by a dial that went to 10....today was an 11...maybe even 12.

The temperature was nice, the sun was shining, and the snow was perfect. The proof is in the pictures...

Chris, Sue and company enjoying a day on the slopes.

Micheal D, taking it all in.

The park was a happening place today....Stephan and crew installed the NEW 37' street style rail and made some changes to a few other features.

Feeling the flow in the jump line.

The Series opener in the SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER RAIL JAM SERIES just wrapped up...A special thank-you to our sponsors.
